The group sizes of the case and control groups wasn't properly delineated in the paper. However, with this excerpt "The microbial community between the cancerous lesions (C) and matched paracancerous tissues (P) was compared in 24 patients", I'm assuming that the "matched" here means that both cancerous lesions and paracancerous tissues were collected from 24 patients and compared.
